Ko-Koro Kempo

The School Patch

♦ ♦ ♦

♦ ♦ ♦

Your patch is not just a piece of cloth sewn to your gi.  It is a representation of who we are and what we stand for.

•  The round top lets attack from above roll off without touching us.

•  The sides are curved in to allow evil to bounce off without harming us.

•  The points on the bottom show us that there is more than one way out.  You don't have to stay and fight.

•  The yellow sun represents energy.

•  The black "K" stands for kempo, the style that we study.

•  The staff is the school's favorite weapon.

•  The swords show the reflection of the person using them.

•  The Yin-Yang, with it's equal parts of dark and light, shows that we don't dominate, we compliment.  We couldn't have one without the other.

•  The fist represents power, never to be used aggressively.

•  The tri-sectional staff is Hanshi Libby's favorite weapon.

•  The brown of the weapons represents the practice and hard work that it takes to master them.

•  The red background represents power.

Your patch must be sewn on by hand.  It's easier to put on your gi top, position the patch on the left side of the top.  Make sure it is straight, and pin it securely.  Use black thread and sew to the black border threads (don't try to sew through your patch, you'll only poke your fingers).  Always wash your gi in cold water.  Never use bleach.  Any stains can usually be removed by rubbing from the back with ivory soap.  (Hot water and /or bleach will make the patch run and you'll have a very pink gi).
